It provides a huge variety of Indian food that includes cereals, grains, millets, sweets, namkeen, pickles, authentic spices, toys, books, arts, crafts, and handlooms.
The e-commerce platform also offers childhood memories like peppermints and candies. It went a step further, by providing indoor games like Vamana Guntalu and toys made in Nirmal in Telangana which are considered to be ideal gifts and souvenirs. The 400-year old Nirmal Art is widely popular with NRIs and it is in great demand. Women fashion accessories, handloom sarees and dress materials are added subsequently along with kitchen utensils, edible cutlery, kids products, learning material for kids and desi wellness products such as Zindatilismath, herbal and Patanjali products. It has supported local artists who make Nirmal Toys, Kondappali Toys and Etikopakka Toys.
"We have generated Rs 2.8-crore worth of business for local Kondapalli artisans, and home entrepreneurs in last 3 years," said Ram Vemireddy, Co-Founder and CEO of Desi Authentic. He is an NRI settled in the US, and started the company with three other Co-founders Saurabh Ramdorai, Ugandhar Sabbineni and Vara Prasad Surikuchi.
"We support women empowerment and support housewife groups by marketing pickles, sweets and snacks which are made in their homes. Similarly, we promote handloom sarees directly from weavers to NRI customers in various parts of the world. And the children are not left behind. They are supported with desi and traditional toys and teaching tools," he added.
Ram Vemireddy has developed Desi Authentic platform with a vision to aid hand workers and crafters of rural India to market their products on a global platform. "Many NRIs hold functions such as housewarmings, weddings, birthdays and anniversaries in their respective countries. But food for their functions is cooked here in Hyderabad.
Now, this is the new trend," he said. "Desi Authentic has been taking desi food global, satiating the home food cravings of NRI Telugus for the past three years. It offers approximately 150 most missed dishes to NRIs in about 12 countries including USA, Canada, Australia, Newzealand, UAE and others. It has served over 38,000 NRIs with over 10,000 kg of food items in a month."
